Debit Card Usage Soars

The video shown below is just trying to spotlight a recent trend that has been occurring over the last few years in the United States. That trend is that people are carrying less cash on them and are using their debit cards more frequently. The video is just trying to get people to realize that ALWAYS using your debit card may not be to your benefit. For example, if you use your debit card and are unaware of the balance in your checking account, and you overdraw your account...it is much the same as going over the limit on a credit card and you can be charged anywhere from $25 and up for going over your account even by a penny.

I don't know about the rest of your readers out there but I can at least say that this has happened to me numerous of times. Not so much anymore although on occasion, however, this phenomenon use to occur to me every week back when I was in college and broke all the time. I also know that this use to happen to my friends all the time as well. We would often times brag about how negative our checking accounts were due to fees and overdrafts.

Start-up airline Virgin America to start operate in U.S.

U.S. start-up airline Virgin America finally began selling tickets Thursday for its inaugural flights from San Francisco to New York and Los Angeles, after months of tussle with federal regulators.

The San Francisco-based carrier will begin service next month with two daily flights from San Francisco to New York and five daily flights to Los Angeles, with competitive pricing, airline officials said.

A brainchild of British mogul Richard Branson, Virgin America received approval from the Department of Transportation last week to operate and plans to ramp up quickly.

The airline will have five U.S. cities, also including Washington and Las Vegas, in its route system by the end of October and is considering more destinations in the future.

The company said it hopes to serve 10 cities within its first year of operation and up to 30 cities within five years. The carrier will introduce L.A.-New York service in August.

Fred Reid, Virgin America's chief executive, said that the airline had hoped to launch several months ago, but Department of Transportation requirements that the company limit its foreign ownership slowed its progress. British citizen Branson, who owns Virgin Atlantic, holds a 25 percent stake in Virgin America.

Industry analysts said that compared with fares offered by its competitors, Virgin America could be a hot ticket.

The airline will be seen as a more serious player than other start-ups because of its name, and it will be shooting to became a major player in the United States with a number of years, they said.

GM, Ford, Chrysler Sales Drop in June

Well according to the associated press the big 3 have lost sales for the month of June. Meanwhile sales of small cars which usually get better gas mileage have risen. Hmmm...is there a link between fuel efficiency and high gas prices. The answer is a clear yes. Consumer's want to make their dollar go further and cannot afford prices of gasoline at $3 a gallon or higher any longer. The big winners were Japanese auto-makers Nissan, Toyota, and Honda all with double digit increases. With hybrids and fuel efficient gasoline vehicles these companies have a competitive edge over their American counterparts. Its only a matter of time before the Big 3 has to change its tune and sell cars that people actually want to buy.
